Join us for a week of science exploration and discovery! This camp is designed to empower those who identify as girls (ages 8-13) and are interested in learning about science and coding in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Hosted in partnership with UBC’s Dr. David Ng, the ongoing supervisor of the Advanced Molecular Biology Laboratory (AMBL), activities will include hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) experiments, group projects, and opportunities to meet other girls and learn from each other.

We are happy to offer you this camp at a subsidized rate thanks to the support of UBC’s Community-University Engagement Support (CUES) grant.

When: August 21 - 25, 2023 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

Where: UBC Michael Smith Laboratories (2185 E Mall, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Z4)

Who can come: This workshop is geared towards those ages 8-13 who identify as girls**

Technology you will learn: learn the basics of coding, animation, robotics, laboratory science, art, and more!

Number of sessions: 5 x 4.5 hour sessions

Prerequisites: None! This class is for those who are beginners and do not have extensive technical knowledge.

Materials needed: Please bring a water bottle, a lunch and a snack!

*Priority registration will be given to students who identify as newcomers to Canada (those who have been in Canada for 5 years or less).

*The age range is not strictly enforced and we accept those close to this range.

This workshop is funded by UBC’s Community-University Engagement Support (CUES) grant. As part of the grant’s mission to create an inclusive space and build a community for those with shared experiences, this workshop is for students who identify as girls, with priority registration offered to those who also identify as newcomers to Canada.
