The Future of Education: Coding

As the world goes into lockdown amid the global pandemic, many parents wonder how to best maintain a supportive environment at home to keep their children curious, engaged, and learning as we shift to classes online. With many school extracurriculars and summer camps placed on pause at the moment, it’s important to consider activities that can be pursued from home in order to cultivate learning among our kids and to shake away the common feelings of boredom we all know too well. If you’re looking for a solution to your child’s boredom during quarantine, or seeking ways to set your child up for success in the future, one activity to heavily consider if you haven’t already done so is coding.

Technology is Used Everywhere

With the world becoming increasingly connected through technology - jobs in the technology sector are growing exponentially with more demand for developers, software engineers, and IT staff. As more and more aspects of our lives become intertwined with technology, whether it’s interactive online games in the classroom, digital tools used in healthcare, or software solutions for business - building computer literacy in our children through coding workshops is a great start to setting a solid foundation for further learning and success in the future.

Coding Builds Persistence & Logic

To some extent, both children and adults alike become reliant on technology in one way or another. Learning how to code through interactive coding workshops helps build persistence and problem-solving skills in our children, which becomes useful traits to have later on in life in both the classroom and workplace setting. Not everything will always work out the way you want it to in life, as mistakes happen and failures are an inevitable part of the growth process. Learning to code helps children develop the ability to bounce back from failures - which we often consider as learning opportunities, building a persistence and resilience at a young age that extends into later years in life.

The Tech Sector is Growing

Many of the top jobs today are in the tech sector, with growing demand for programming skills across other industries as well. According to the State of Swyft Industry Report, the tech industry experienced a 27.3% growth in new business formation from 2018 to 2019. Coding has become a practical core skill that also helps increase a job candidate’s value and earning income potential. As children are being introduced to coding at a younger and younger age, they are able to think creatively and become better innovators with a broad skill set needed in today’s digital age.
